Low Impact Music
Jane Fonda made workout history with Jane Fonda’s Workout. Her effervescent
style virtually created an industry. Although her original video is now out of
production, she currently has a virtual library of fitness videos on the
market.
Bob Sinclair recorded Gym Tonic on the ‘Paradise’ double
album. Produced by Bob Sinclair and Thomas Bangalter. Thomas Bangalter is best
known for his role as half of the Daft Punk duo. This version of Gym Tonic
included vocal samples of Jane Fonda from her video, Jane Fonda’s Workout. This
version was purported a big hit in Ibiza club scene.
Workout Biters
Originally released on vinyl by a small French label, it was subsequently
release on a limited 12" import. It was then signed to East West Records, but
could not be released prior to sample being cleared.
Work out songs then became a hit, and ultimately there were
over 20 different covers of the Sinclar original. Pretenders include Spacedust,
whose version goes "Back, 2,3,4,5,6,7,8"; others go "Step,2,3,4,5,6,7,8" or
"Jump,2,3,4,5,6,7,8". Ray Krebbs recorded ‘The Gym’, another rip-off which has
a camp queen filling in for Jane Fonda.
